A General Durable Procuration is a legal document by a person (principal) authorizing a person (representative) to act on behalf of the principal in specific or all legal and/or financial matters. In Louisiana, unless otherwise stated, the general procuration is durable, which means that it survives the mental incapacity of the principal. It expires upon the death of the principal.
Health Care Procuration is a legal document by a person (principal) authorizing a person (representative) to act on behalf of the principal in specific or all healthcare matters. It is effective only during such time that the principal has been certified by physicians that the principal is unable to communicate, in any manner, his/her health care decisions.
